My sporting background is running. I
won an under 6 race in community
games in Cusack Park in 1973 and
have been running (or as a friend
would say slogging) ever since.
Started in triathlon in 2007. I was at a
low  fitness wise, and Vera McCool
encouraged me to come out to the
aquathons being run in Lilliput.  I
was very unfit but I had no problem
with the swim or run and really
enjoyed them. I did not have a
burning desire to do triathlons but
gradually got more involved in the club
and got to know more people and doing a
triathlon naturally evolved from there.
What I like most about triathlons is the
social aspect and whilst putting in the
training still being able to have the fun and
crack.
Proudest moment in triathlon was being voted Female Triathlete of
the Year in the Club in 2009 and also placing 2nd in my age category in
the National Series in 2009, which was my first competitive year. Also
watching Ruby and Niall in the MTC Kidathon in Bloomfield in 2009.
Most embarrassing moment was on the run leg in the Bala Half
Ironman 2008 as part of a relay team. I was not aware that High 5
was a drink given out on the course.  I thought High 5 was the “Hand-
gesture” and it was only after I went through the second water station
and a marshall shouted High 5 and I put up two Hands and shouted
back “High 5” and two drinks (not water) were pushed into my hands.
It was only then that the penny dropped and I realized what High 5
meant.  I was inwardly embarrassed but despite the heat and rolling
hills still got a fit of the giggles and for the remainder of the run could
be seen intermittently bursting into laughter.
