My sporting background - Dancing
at raves through the night, was
fairly good at it too. Chain
smoking, Drinking..
I chose triathlon because after my
Father died from cancer, and my
younger brother had cancer I
wanted to do something to raise
money for cancer. I heard about
the Tri to Beat Cancer Triathlon
and the rest is history, hooked
straight away. Plus I was fifteen
and a half stone and it was a
great way of getting in shape.
My first triathlon was Tri to Beat
Cancer 2007 at Lilliput, felt like I had
done the Ironman.
Lisbon is one of my favourites, but on
home soil it has to be Dublin.
Proudest moment in triathlon – I have loads, from seeing my eldest daughter Nicole
finishing her first tri (Tri to Beat Cancer) in 2008, to seeing my wife Sharon finishing
the half marathon leg of the Half Ironman in Lisbon. She was really nervous but she
smiled the whole way around. To crossing the line in Ironman U.K with my 4
daughters and my wife after having to walk the marathon. And setting up the
Kidathon with Dorothy, Noel, Enda, and Pat.
Embarrassing moment in triathlon – Far to many to mention, most recent running
around transition in Lough Key with my bike looking for my spot, while Gerry Duffy
gave a running commentary on the mike about how lost I was.
Biggest wish for triathlon? To see Gavin Doran race on the bigger circuit, if
anyone deserves it he does, the time and commitment he puts in is unreal.
My agenda for the future is to keep the Kidathon going for as long as possible, I think
it’s great to give it all back to the kids for one day, they come the length and breath of
the country to see us race, so it’s nice to have the roles reversed for one day.
Who would I like to beat in the future? Hmmm… Brian Keane, Gavin Nobel, Elena
Maslova, Wayne Reid, Aidan Daly, Breda Daly, Enda Mimmnagh, Noel Mason,
Ronan Bracken, David Fagan, Paul O Brien, Paula Murray, John Walsh, Colm
Walsh, Aidan Gorry, Nigel Hogan, Mick Walshe, Nikki McCabe, Brigid McCabe,
Seamus Moran, Vera McCool, Paul McCool, Daragh Caffery, Jarlath Mahon, Brian
Boyle, Caroline Boyle, Killian Brady, I think that’s it for now, Cause at this stage I’m
sick of beating Philip…
